How to shorten a Google Form link (and see how many people opened it)

Updated · Sutly team

Google Form links are long and hard to share, for example https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf…/viewform. Google offers its own "shorten URL" box, but you can't choose the ending and you can't see how many people opened the form. Here's how to get a short, memorable link with click counts.

Step 1: Copy your form's link

  1. Open your form in Google Forms and click Send (or Publish, then Copy responder link).
  2. Choose the link tab (the chain icon) and copy the full link. Leave Google's "Shorten URL" box unticked; you'll use your own short link instead.

Step 2: Make a short link with your own ending

  1. Log in to Sutly and paste the form link into Shorten a link.
  2. Open Options and type a custom alias that describes the form, such as register, feedback or admission-2026.
  3. Optionally add an expiry date for the day the form closes. After that, visitors see a friendly "link expired" page instead of a closed form.
  4. Press Shorten. Your link is now sutly.onrender.com/register.

Step 3: Share it, and add a QR code for print

Paste the short link into WhatsApp groups, emails or your Instagram bio. For notice boards and posters, open the link's page and press Download QR, or Customize QR to add your school or company logo and a label like "Scan to register".

Step 4: See how many people opened the form

Google Forms tells you how many people submitted the form. Your short link tells you how many opened it. Compare the two to see how many people started but didn't finish. On the link's stats page you'll see clicks per day for the last 30 days, and QR code scans are listed separately as "QR code scan".

Tip: changed the form? Keep the same link

If you make a new version of the form, open the short link's page and paste the new form address into Destination URL. Everyone using the old short link or QR code now reaches the new form. There's no need to resend messages or reprint posters.

Try it now, free. No app to install; it works in your phone's browser.
