Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about using Sutly. Can't find what you need? Contact us.
Is Sutly free?
Yes. Creating an account, making short links, viewing click stats and downloading QR codes are all free. The site is supported by advertising.
Do my short links ever stop working?
Not unless you choose an expiry date, delete the link, or the link breaks our terms of use (for example, by pointing to a scam or malware). Links you make today keep working.
Can I change where a link goes after sharing it?
Yes. Open the link from your dashboard, change the destination and save. The short link and its QR code stay the same, so anyone who already has them goes to the new page.
Can I change the short ending itself?
No. Once a link is created, its ending stays fixed so links you have already shared never break. If you need a different ending, create a new link with the alias you want.
Why does my alias say "already taken"?
Each ending can only belong to one link across the whole site, and some words are reserved for our own pages. Try adding a word or a number, for example "/sale-chennai" or "/sale2026".
Are capital letters different?
No. "/Offer", "/OFFER" and "/offer" all open the same link. This avoids confusion when people type a link by hand.
How are clicks counted?
Each time someone opens your short link, we add one click and note the date and the website they came from, if their browser shares it. Repeated visits by the same person count as separate clicks.
Why do most of my clicks say "Direct / unknown"?
Messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, email apps, QR code scans and typed links usually do not tell websites where a visitor came from. That is normal.
Do you track the people who click my links?
We record the time of the click and the referring website. We do not store visitors' IP addresses with click records, and we do not give link owners any personal information about their visitors.
Can I see where a short link goes before opening it?
Yes. Add a "+" to the end of any Sutly link to see its destination first.
What links are not allowed?
Phishing pages, malware, scams, spam, illegal content, and links to other URL shorteners or IP-tracking tools. The full list is in our Terms of use. We disable links that break these rules.
How do I report a harmful link?
Use the Report a link page. Tell us the short link and what is wrong with it. We usually review reports within 24 hours.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
Use "Forgot password?" on the log-in page. We will email you a link to choose a new one; it works for one hour.
Can I download my links?
Yes. Your dashboard and account page have an "Export CSV" button that downloads all your links with their click counts. The file opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account and use "Delete account". This removes your account and every link you created. It cannot be undone.
What is the URL builder?
A free tool that adds UTM tags (campaign source, medium and name) to the end of a link. Analytics tools such as Google Analytics read these tags to show exactly where each visitor came from. Build the tagged link, then shorten it with Sutly so it stays neat. You can also add or change tags on an existing short link from its Manage page.
Can I design my own QR code?
Yes. The QR code generator lets you pick colours, dot and corner shapes, add your logo and a label such as "SCAN ME", then download PNG or SVG. Save a design to one of your short links and its Manage page will use it. QR codes for your short links count scans separately, shown as "QR code scan" in the link stats.
